The 2016 Conference of The Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues (SPSSI) was in Minneapolis, Minnesota on June 24-26, 2016. As Minnesota Youth Development Research Group, we presented a symposium: Using Developmental Skills and Supports to Improve Youth Outcomes. Dr. Michael Rodriguez chaired the session. The paper presentations included:
  • Rigorous Measurement from a Statewide Youth Survey
  • After-School Participation and the Association with Developmental Outcomes
  • School Sports and Positive Youth Development
  • Exploring American Indian Students’ Non-response to Educational Goals
These papers presented the methodology of creating developmental scales from the Minnesota Student Survey, their associations with other important outcomes (e.g., developmental skills, social values, and academic achievement), and examples of applying these measures to practical contexts where youth thrive. The symposium presentations are available in our website in the Research tab.
